SOLISTONE Terrazzo tiles bring retro aesthetic to modern applications. Terrazzo's signature blend of concrete with marble chips lends itself to a diverse range of surfaces. Large format 19.75" x 19.75" tiles can be easily installed on any interior or exterior surface. Available in three colors in a polished finish for high shine and high style.
To prevent possible staining and discoloration SOLISTONE recommends sealing all Terrazzo tiles BEFORE installation and AFTER grouting. Due to the porosity of this product, multiple applications may be necessary.
All substrates should be firmly fixed, flat, clean, dry and free of contaminants.Wet areas need special attention and appropriate substrates, e.g. concrete, cement boards (compressed sheet), and treated plywood.
Grout should be suitable for joints up to 3/4" in width and designed for external or internal conditions whichever may be the case. Sanded grout is generally recommended for any grout joint larger than 1/8'. A sanded grout if applied harshly can scratch the tiles; carefully float in the grout to avoid abrasion. It is important to wait the interval recommended by the adhesive manufacturer before grouting to minimize dirt ingress between the tiles and avoid the opportunity for dislodging of the tiles.
BEFORE applying sealant, wash the tiles and let dry for 24-48 hours. This will ensure that moisture is not present under the surface of the title. Failure to allow tiles to dry completely before application will result in permanent discolorations. All sealants must be tested before application. Test Sealants on a single tile before use on all project materials.
After the product has been sealed, test the sealer by adding water to the top of the tile. If sealed correctly, the water should pool on the top. There are various products available on the market, however, we recommend contacting your nearest tile supplier for the most appropriate sealer for your application. Whenever using sealants please ensure that you follow the manufacturer's recommended method of application.
The Terrazzo Collection must be regularly cleaned and maintained to extend the life and beauty of the tile. The tiles can be cleaned with a neutral mild detergent and a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, powders, scouring pads, steel wool or sandpaper. For tiles in higher traffic areas, keep surfaces clean from abrasive dirt. Do not use abrasive cleaners, powders, scouring pads, steel wool or sandpaper. Do not let soap, bleach or other cleaning solutions set on the surface.
Waterproof membranes prevent leakage of water through to the sub-floor framing and/or habitable spaces below. Particular attention must be paid to carrying the membrane up the wall, outside shower boxes, installation of bond breakers and sealing around penetrations. It is strongly recommended that membrane systems be used in all wet areas; including exterior suspended decking. Some systems involve the use of a primer.
The manufacturer's literature will explain if the product is suitable for interiors and/or exteriors, as well as walls and floors. A cement-based adhesive is generally suitable on masonry substrates where no movement is anticipated. It is important that each tile is embedded in the adhesive. An appropriate 1/4" to 1/8" notched trowel can be used to apply the thin set to no more than one square yard of adhesive at a time.
